Forget the plane – Teleconference! Is the message from the Florida Whig Party.

The party is launching a new movement to push national, state and local leaders to use new teleconferencing technologies instead of expensive air travel.

A post on their website questions, “outrageous use of state airplanes for questionable travel and the part-time status of our Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Chief Financial Officer as they all campaign full-time for higher offices…”. Currently in Florida Governor Charlie Crist is running for U.S. Senate, Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp is running for Attorney General, and Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is running for Governor.

The party is asking questions including:

“Should the Florida Whig Party require that a minimum percentage of time while in elective office be conducted within the borders of the state rather than in Washington, D.C.?”

“Is Congress able to craft legislation that allows video-conferencing in order to constitute a quorum?”

“Would teleconferencing reduce undue influence and pressure on party members to vote the party line?”

“Would known lobbyists and quiet peddlers of influence and power be reduced because of an increase in local vigilance by local media, interested individuals and groups?”

State level third party bolts from national party….

The Florida Whig Party has “discontinued” its association party Modern Whig (Party) Club. On the Florida Whig’s reads the part is leaving it’s national club, “pending a response to a formal request to the past Chair for an independent financal audit, identification of the Club treasurer, a certification as to the true membership of the Club, a copy of the minutes, resolutions, and votes for all meetings since inception by the Board of Directors, and a complete roster of all independent and appointed state and local Whig leaders, clubs, and organizations.”

The Florida Whigs also have issues with the national organization because of, “As of Sunday, November 15, 2009 an unknown person(s) to Chairperson Stephens and the FWP, who is believed associated with the prior administration, has once again removed all links to the Florida Whig Party and its candidates on the website of the Modern Whig Club, formerly headquartered in Washington, D.C.”

The blogger whigblog gave some background on the fray writing, “The ‘Florida Whig Party’ pre-dated the Modern Whig Party by over a year. After the formation of the Modern Whigs, they decided to ally themselves with the Modern Whigs on a national level.”

Newspaper focuses on candidate's Town Hall pledge…

Newspaper focuses on Florida Whig candidate’s pledge to hold town hall meetings every month. Town Hall Meeting should not seem like a shocking campaign point for congress, but Matt Dixon on NewsHerald.com writes about Paul McKain’s campaign for Congress.

He quote McKain, ““I have broken the district into four sections… I will hold a town hall in each section each month or in Washington if I am there, and broadcast it district-wide.”

McKain is running for Florida’s 2nd Congressional District. Representative Allen Boyd current holds the seat, but faces a primary challenge from Al Lawson. There are also three Republicans running for the seat.

Modern Whigs are getting noticed in Florida. Tom McLaighlin writes on NWFDailyNews.com there are a number of people lining-up to unseat incumbent Representatives Jeff Miller and Allen Boyd.

McLaighlin writes about Paul Crandall McKain becoming the, ”first Whig candidate to run for federal office since Abraham Lincoln.” McKain is running against Representataive Boyd. McKain was quoted saying, “If the representative does not represent the wishes of the people, the people’s vote means nothing… they have no representation.”

Modern Whig Party candidate for NJ Assembly backs independent for Governor…

Modern Whig Party candidate for NJ Assembly backs independent for Governor. Gene L. Baldassari is backing Independent Gubernatorial Candidate for Governor Chris Daggett. Baldassari is the first person to run on the Modern Whig ticket in New Jersey.

He wrote on his website, “I have not looked into all of (Daggett’s) ideas. But it is not necessary. Even if we disagree on some issues, we agree on the most important need for New Jersey. An Independent Governor would be independent enough to break the monopolistic stranglehold that’s preventing good ideas from penetrating the walls of the State House.”

Baldassari finishes his endorsement by saying, “Until we cure that disease, there is little profit in looking at any other issues. That is enough for me to consider him as a viable choice for Governor.”

Modern Whig Party targeting Florida democratic districts…

Modern Whig Party targeting Florida democratic districts with two new candidates. The Florida Whig Party, a branch of the Modern Whig Party has announced on Monday, October 19th, 2009, they will officially announce two new 2010 candidates for Congress.

The candidates will be in Florida's 3rd and 20th Congressional Districts.

The 3rd Congressional District covers parts of North Central Florida. Representative Corrine Brown has won the seat uncontested since 2006, in 2004 Congresswoman Brown won with 99% of the vote. She was last seriously challenged in 2002 when she won a three-way race, 59-41-0. She was first elected to Congress in 1992.

The 20th Congressional District covers parts of South Florida including Fort Lauderdale. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has represented the district since winning the 2004 election. That 2004 race was he closest when she won with 70% of the vote.

The Modern Whigs previously announced a candidate for Florida’s 2nd Congressional District. Paul C. McKain is trying to unseat Democratic Congressman Allen Boyd who was first elected in 1996.

Modern Whig Party is expected to announce two new Congressional candidates. A mention on their blog, the Modern Whigs say they are expected to, “announce the addition of two more Congressional candidates.”

They did not say when the Congressional candidates will be announced, or what race they will be running in.

The Florida branch of the Modern Whig Party is actively searching for a candidate to run in the Special Election to replace Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler, who has announced his resignation from Congress. Wexler will become the new president of the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation. Wexler’s seat is Florida’s 19th Congressional District seat.

Independent for Congress passes $100k in fundraising….

Independent for Congress passes $100k in fundraising in New Mexico. In a news release sent from the Adam Kokesh for Congress Campaign they announced they have raised more than, “$100,000 in their first reporting period.”

The campaign was extremely proud of the victory because, “This campaign has raised more in the first reporting period than any republican in an entire primary since this seat was last held by a Republican in 1998.” The campaign reports have not officially been posted on fec.gov.

Kokesh is running as an Independent. He has been endorsed by the Modern Whig Party and Congressman Dr. Ron Paul.

Whig Party candidate is the first third party candidate to be listed on Fec.gov for third quarter...

Of all of the third party and independent candidates running for Federal office in 2010, Paul McKain comes in first. He is the first to be listed in fec.gov for report fundraising in the third quarter of 2009.

Paul McKain, running under the Modern Whig Party banner for Florida’s Third Congressional District, has $9,346 cash on hand.

McKain is the first person to ever run for any office under the Modern Whig Party banner.

New political party in California… The Modern Whigs.

The Whigs said they are now going to be active in the nation’s most populated state. In a tweet sent out on July 8th they said, “Modern Whigs in California officially notify state of intention to qualify as registered political party.”

A letter from the California state elections analyst to all California County Clerks/Registrars of Voters says the Whigs will, “attempt to qualify as a political party for the June 2010 Direct Primary Election”

Modern Whigs back second candidate…

Modern Whigs back second candidate… for Congress.

In their Independence Day message the Modern Whig party announced they are backing Adam Kokesh’s run for Congress. Kokesh is running in New Mexico’s Third District.

Kokesh has said if he will run on any party ticket. Kokesh has also been endorsed by two people that ran for President in 2008; Congressman Ron Paul and former Senator Mike Gravel.

Democrat Ben Lujan is currently in his first term in Congress representing New Mexico’s Third District. In 2008, the area showed 14% support for independent Carol Miller.

Paul McKain is running for Congress on the Modern Whig Party ticket in Florida. McKain was the first person to run for office on the Modern Whig ticket.

Another Whig is on...

Another Whig is on... the ballot. The second Modern Whig Party candidate to run for office has made it official.

Gene L. Baldassari qualified to run for New Jersey Assembly in the 14th Legislative District. He has become "New Jersey’s first candidate on the Modern Whig Party".

Paul C. McKain, who is running for Congress from Florida, became the first Modern Whig candidate ever.

The Whig goes to…

The Whig goes to… Paul C. McKain.

McKain has filed to run for Congress in Florida’s Second Congressional seat. With that McKain becomes the first Modern Whig to run for an office.

McKain is running for the seat currently held by Democrat Allen Boyd. The district is in Florida’s panhandle including the state capital, Tallahassee.

At this point Boyd is also facing a primary challenger of Al Lawson. No Republican or any other candidate has yet filed to run for the seat.

A Modern Whig Party news release describes McKain as, "McKain worked his way through college to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida International University where he majored in Education and minored in Physical Sciences. Upon graduation, he taught for 3 ½ years then applied for and was selected to join Sunrise Florida Fire and Rescue Department where he worked for 23 years until his retirement in 2003. While off duty, McKain built and developed several businesses from the ground up, most recently working on a global scale culminating with the passage of legislation through the US Congress."

An e-mail from the Modern Whigs on Monday, May 18th says they will announce thier first ever candidate (since the 1800's) at their on-line national meeting on Tuesday, May 19th.

The e-mail says, "Representatives from Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and overseas will be in attendance..."

We'll see who gets the first Whig nod.

Whigs go from 1800's to on-line... The Modern Whig party announced in an e-mail Wednesday they are now holding meetings on-line because their party is growing so much.

Their first on-line meeting will be May 19th.

The e-mail says, "Sunday political newspaper columnists continue to rave about the potential viability of this organization." Whigs point to growth from, "Many of these members are disenchanted Republicans and moderate Democrats who value common sense, rational solutions ahead of ideology and partisanship."

Are Bars, Doctors & Lawyers now credit companies?

Waving the Red Flag on "The Red Flag"... The Florida Modern Whigs were tweeting out their concerns of the New Red Flag Requirement from the FTC.  It's a program to "detect, prevent, and mitigate" identity theft.

The FTC says the Red Flags Rules only apply: to “financial institutions” and “creditors” with “covered accounts.”

But, what does that mean?  The Whig Tweets claim: "A bar runs a tab for their regulars; however with the FTC Red Flag Law, the Bar is required to collect photo ID as they are now a credit co." and tweets warn of "if you sign a pledge card 4 a non-profit or charity, they are required to obtain your photo ID and keep it on file."

Analysis from Business Management Daily says small and mid-sized business think this new rule to protect credit fraud does not apply to them, but they could find-out with "audits, fines and class action suits."

The Wisconsin Law Journal points out doctors and lawyers could also be forced to live up to these new rules.

So if you qualify for this rule, what do you have to do?

*Develop a written program that identifies and detects the red flags of identity theft.

*Describe appropriate responses that prevent and mitigate identity theft.

*The program must be managed by the Board of Directors or senior employees.
