Possible independent candidate for Governor in Nevada polling near 30%…

Possible Independent candidate for Governor of Nevada Oscar Goodman is polling near 30%. A new Nevada News Bureau poll shows Republican Brian Sandoval getting 35%, Las Vegas Mayor and possible independent candidate Oscar Goodman at 28% and Democrat Rory Reid getting 21%.

Mayor Goodman, who is a Democrat, has toyed with the idea of running for Governor as an independent candidate. Goodman would have to change his voter registration by the end of December to run as an Independent.

The Thirds sees three hidden stories in this poll.

First: The poll has a +/-5% margin of error which means Goodman could have the lead, but likely not.

Second: The polls results showed 16% preferring some other candidate, who is that other candidate?

Third: Mayor Goodman polled at only 8% in Washoe County which is in the northern part of the state, Goodman is the mayor of Las Vegas in the south of the state. This means that Goodman would likely see positive voting trends in the northern half of the state pulling him closer to the leader Sandoval.

Libertarian Congressional candidate shot multiple times by police in Nevada. Antonio Planas writes on LVJR.com, “The man who was shot multiple times this week while fleeing from a Las Vegas police officer in the northwest valley is Raymond J. Duensing.”

The report says Duensing was shot several times in the arm and torso and tased as well. The shooting happened after what police called “a routine traffic stop”.

Planas said it appears Duensing is the same man that ran for Congress in 2008 versus Democratic Representative Shelley Berkley. Duensing won 4,511 votes or 2% of the votes cast in the race. Representative Berkley easily cruised to re-election in 2008 with 68% of the vote.

Duensing was listed in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Possible running mate with Goodman for Governor not jumping in…

Possible running mate for Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman’s possible independent run for Governor is not jumping into the race. Susan Voyles writes on RGJ.com that Reno Mayor Bob Cashell is planning to run for a third term as mayor.

Voyles reported, “Cashell toyed with the idea of running for governor. He said he had a poll that showed an independent ticker of Cashell, a Republican, and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, a Democrat, could be competitive.” Cashell said after weighing all of the options, his heart is in Reno.

Voyles did not speculate who else could run with Goodman for Governor, that is if Goodman actually does run.

Independent American Party registers more new members than GOP in Nevada from February 2009 to September 2009. LasVegasSun.com writer David McGrath Schwartz writes about new registration numbers from the Nevada Secretary of State.

The Independent American Party is still in fourth place in total registration behind Democrats, Republican and Non-Partisans. But, from February 2009 to September 2009 the Independent American Party grew more than the Republicans in new registration, 1690 – 1549. In that same time period there were 4,860 new registered Democrats and 3,783 registered Non-Partisans.

Not even officially running, an independent is tied for lead in Nevada Gubernatorial election. According to an article written by Ed Vogel on LVRJ.com, “Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and former U.S. District Judge Brian Sandoval would be in a dead heat if the 2010 race for governor were held today…”. In a recent poll, both men got 33% of the vote.

Goodman is a registered Democrat, but he has talked openly about running for Nevada Governor as an independent candidate. Sandoval is a Republican. The likely Democrat party backed candidate will be Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid. Reid, the son of United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, would draw about 25 percent of the votes.

The article quotes the managing partner of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. Brad Coker saying the timing may be right for Goodman’s independent run. He said, “Goodman is the wild card in this thing… The Republicans were out of favor at this time last year, and the Democrats are falling out of favor now. People want an independent. Goodman, with his street cred and popularity across party lines, fits right into this race."

The poll also shows if unpopular Governor Jim Gibbons would get the Republican nomination, Mayor Goodman would win the vote by nearly 10%.

"If I feel that I'll be the best Governor the state ever had, I'll probably run,” is a quote from Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. In an interview with KVBC he hinted at a run for Governor of Nevada, but would not say for sure.

In the interview posted on kvbc.com Goodman said, “…I'd like to run as a non-partisan because I like being a non-partisan mayor. I think it's a wonderful thing when you don't have to get involved in party politics."

The article says Goodman knows the run for Governor would be tough as an independent, but he’s up for a challenge. In April of 2007, Mayor Goodman was re-elected to a third and final term, receiving 83 percent of the votes.

A mayor may spoil the Democratic Governors Association’s plan according to an article published on Fox5Vegas.com. The Democratic Governors Association declared Nevada a “Top-Tier Pickup Opportunity” in 2010, hoping to unseat Republican Governor Jim Gibbons.

Clark County Commissioner and son of Senator Harry Ried, Rory Reid, is slated to be uncontested in his bid for the Democratic nomination for Governor. That still does not mean a Democrat will not run against him.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, a Democrat, is considering a run for Governor. According to the Fox5Vegas.com report Goodman has said, “he would prefer to strike out on his own as an independent candidate.” As for Republicans, there are a number of people running in their primary to unseat Governor Gibbons.

Independent American Party candidate gets record campaign violation fine… in Nevada.

Multiple media sources in Nevada are reporting the Independent American Party candidate for Washoe County clerk, Zachary Triggs was hit with a huge fine.

The LasVegasSun.com report says a Carson City District Judge fined Triggs $54,303 for failing to file required reports. The judge got that total from: $15,000 in civil penalties for failing to file the reports, $33,369 in attorneys’ fees and $5,934 in interest.

Secretary of State Ross Miller says he believes the previous penalty record was $37,000.

To make it even worse, Triggs lost the race only getting 20-percent of the vote.

GM will fail...

GM will fail... that's the take from Wayne Allyn Root. The 2008 Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate says there is no reason to expect General Motors will be successful.

Root writes, "Government loses money at virtually everything it does and touches." Root pointed to Social Security, Medicare, and Education.

He then highlights the train systems. “Government took over Amtrak in the same way it took over GM, promising a quick return to profitability,” Root wrote. He continued, “Amtrak bleeds losses every year for the U.S. taxpayer. In 1970 when Amtrak was founded, $300 million was approved by Congress to run it. The government predicted profitability within 5 years. That was 39 years and over $30 billion dollars in losses ago! “

What Root calls his “clincher” argument is prostitution. Root points to the well known and profitable Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada. Root wirtes, “(the Ranch’s owner) was indicted for tax evasion, escaped to Brazil, and is still today a fugitive from justice. The U.S. government took over the Mustang Ranch. The most successful and profitable brothel in America went bankrupt in one year under government management. That ladies and gentleman, no matter how you feel about brothels, tells you all you need to know about the ability of government to run a business.”
