Liberal blog backs the Republican, could it help the Democrat? It is an interesting question for the special election for New York’s 23rd Congressional District.
Dede Scozzafava, the Republican nominee to replace newly confirmed Secretary of the Army John McHugh, has the endorsement from the DailyKos.com.
It’s a very interesting race. Scozzafava has the Republican nod, but has been ranked as very liberal in her voting in Albany, has been backed in the past by the liberal-leaning Working Families Party, and now has the backing of liberal-leaning blog the DailyKos.com.
All of this liberal backing could drive many conservatives and Republicans to vote for third party candidate Doug Hoffman of the Conservative Party. According to polls, Hoffman is currently polling in the high teens or low twenties. Will Scozzafava’s backing by more liberals drive people from the Republican to the Conservator candidate?
It is very likely if one of the three candidates can pass the 40% mark, they will be elected. In 2006 & 2008 the Democratic candidate received 35% and 37% percent of the vote. That number is not impressive in a two-way race, but in a competitive three-way-race those polling numbers are very close to a win.
